The hard work put in by Musical Director Jim Henson and the band looks to have paid off following disappointing results at the Preston Guild Hall and NEMBBA contests. The provisional grading table following the contest keeps the band in the Second Section for another year.

The band are extremely grateful to Jo Hill (1st Horn), Sheila Leafe (2nd Trombone), Kim Trickett (2nd Baritone), and Simon Johnson (2nd Cornet) who came in following the Preston Contest. Many thanks also goes to Caroline Riley, who usually plays 2nd cornet for the band, playing Timpani with only one week of rehearsals having never played percussion before.

The band also extend their thanks to Ireland Colliery Chesterfield and Matlock Band who very kindly allowed the use of their band rooms and extensive percussion selections.
